Who we are

Safe Paws Dog Training

Safe Paws was founded by Jan Hernandez. He grew up in Puerto Rico in a house with three dogs, and after the family moved to Houston his mother ran a boarding business out of their home. He was part of it daily, which meant learning care and behavior before either one was a career.

Seven years with dogs, four to five of them training full-time. Kennel tech first, doing daily care, safety and handling, then assistant trainer in a professional boarding and training environment, then three years training for a company. Hundreds of dogs, very few of them alike.

That work has covered service dogs, behavior modification, and dogs with aggression and serious behavior issues. Before any of it was professional, it was free cases for friends, family and local shelters. The dogs nobody else wanted to work with are the ones that taught the most.

How we train

We look at the whole picture: the dog, the owner, and the life you actually live. A plan that only works in a training session isn’t a plan.

We train balanced. But you can’t train a dog you don’t have a relationship with, so relationship, trust and clear communication come first, every time. After that it’s reps. Consistent, honest repetition is what turns a good session into a dog you can live with.

Every dog we board stays in a real home, not a commercial kennel and not a row of runs. One house, one routine, and that routine holds from drop-off to pickup.

That’s the model. It’s quieter, it’s more consistent, and training doesn’t stop just because boarding started.
